A middle school teacher named Marty Anderson and his ex wife Felicia Gordon grapple with the apocalyptic events, eventually coming together to face what appears to be the end of the universe. This “end of the universe” is revealed to be connected to 39 year old Chuck, who is dying in a hospital from a brain tumor, surrounded by his wife and son. His passing coincides with the cosmic collapse, implying that his consciousness is a universe unto itself.
